History of Singapore Telugu Methodist Church
It was during mid-eighties that Telugu people started coming in to Singapore in large numbers mainly for work in various sectors, i.e. from IT Industry, Banking & Finance, Health & Medicine, Education, and Engineering to Shipping, Construction, Hotel Industry and to Theological Institutions. Besides this working community, students showed keen interest towards better education and training at Theological Colleges and Singapore National Universities

These friends who came to Singapore and who associated well with the fellow Indians, were invited to worship at Tamil Methodist Church. Initially, just three or four Telugu brothers gathered for a time of prayer and fellowship in Telugu, besides worshipping with the larger Tamil group. Many could not understand Tamil. So, Tamil Methodist Church sensed the need for a worship service in Telugu language. Therefore, on 21st April 2000, i.e., on Good Friday, the first official Telugu Fellowship started at Tamil Methodist Church, Short Street, with about 15 Telugu members attending the service. Rev. R. Prabhu who was the Pastor at Tamil Methodist Church pioneered and encouraged the small Telugu worship group with the Word, prayers and the needed support along with Rev Sadagoppan.

Gradually, the group started to grow and the Telugu-speaking believers, who came to know of the fellowship joined in. Those who were initially involved in the ministry started to give leadership; namely, Bro. Barnabas, Bro. Samson, Bro. Paul, Bro. Solomon, Bro. Jacob, Bro. Paul Prasad and Bro. Yesupadam. From the Tamil side, ever since the initiation, Rev Prabhu and Bro Watson continued to encourage and render strong support. We praise God for them and are grateful to them for their contribution; the fruit has been obvious.

Those who have been attending the service began to experience break through in all areas of their lives. Lives have been transformed and many of them testify God’s faithfulness in their lives. Indeed, we praise God and thank Him for His divine plan to bring Telugus into the saving knowledge of Lord Jesus Christ. From the year 2004, Pastor Anil Samuel Reddipogu continues to give pastoral care and leadership to these people.

On 27th July 2008, Emmanuel Tamil Annual Conference of Methodist Church in Singapore has constituted the Telugu Fellowship as Telugu Methodist Church in Singapore.

In Singapore, the Telugu population began to grow considerably strong and kept increasing steadily. Most of them come from East & West Godavari, Vishakapatnam, Krishna and Guntur districts of coastal Andhra, besides few from the places like Kurnool and Cuddapah of Rayalaseema and Hyderabad and Karimnagar of Telangana regions. For these Telugu-speaking friends irrespective of their denominational backgrounds, Singapore Telugu Methodist Church definitely has been a place to belong, grow and serve.
